This is a collection of Mr. Barker's short stories. If I remember correctly, there are at least five other volumes in addition to this one. Truly, truly inspired, literate, intelligent, thought provoking horror. Some of the stories have literally kept me awake at night thinking: Can't sleep! Rawhead Rex (which incidentally is one of the stories) will eat me!
Two of the stories in this first edition, 'In the Hills, In the Cities' and 'Human Remains', feature exclusively gay characters. 'In the Hills...': Sex is mentioned briefly between a gay couple who are in the process of breaking up. 'Human Remains' touches gay sex seeing as the main character's profession is as a male prostitute. There is a brief kiss between him and the... Oh, I can't say anymore. I'll give it away. (evil laugh)
So, get thee to a bookstore immediately, queer readers! Support one of the few out gay writers out there. Not just because he's queer, but because he's damn good.

The final story in this volume ('Human Remains') haunts me still.
When Derek (the hustler boy protagonist) stands waiting to be picked up by passing men in car, displaying his wares, 'selling what sweated in his jeans,' it's a moment of absolutely hardcore reality that only Barker could conjure.
