Description:
Strange and dangerous happenings center around the retro Hotel Cortez in downtown Los Angeles, initially built as a secret torture chamber to fulfill the violent desires of founder. A detective shows up at the hotel, based on intel from an anonymous tip, to investigate a grisly string of murders, each of which exemplify a sin in violation of one of the Ten Commandments. He has become estranged from his wife and daughter after the disappearance of their son Holden. As the season unfolds, he discovers that the disappearance of Holden may be related to the strange activities at the hotel. At the center of this is the Countess, who was turned into a vampire by her former lovers, actor Rudolph Valentino and his wife.
Throughout his investigation, John also becomes entangled with the spirits of heroin junkie, a hotel maid -- as well as the man who built the hotel, who is looking for a protege to continue the violent acts he started when he was alive.
The Countess' relationship with her partner becomes troubled with the arrival of male model and cocaine addict, a New York millionaire fashion designer, and her scorned ex-lover, all of whom become entangled in her violent life.
Qvamp says: The hotel is loosely based on an actual hotel built in 1893 by H. H. Holmes in Chicago for the 1893 World's Fair. It became known as the 'Murder Castle' as it was built for Holmes to torture, murder, and dispose of evidence just as is the Cortez. |
