Description:
The genre of horror has in the past been almost exclusively the province of
heterosexual writers and themes, stereotypically involving a male
antagonist and a female victim. Queer Fear is a striking and ambitious collection of gay horror fiction by some of today's hottest authors and talented newcomers, covering a wide range of creatures of the night and all manner of urban terrors. These dark and sometimes disturbing tales expand the boundaries of the horror genre, with the sexuality of their protagonists a point of reference for the 'horror' of otherness that defines and, at times,
divides us.
Qvamp says: An unusually good queer horror book. Some of the stories within were really impressive. The book won a Queer Horror award in 2000. The stories within this collection explore how heaven and hell depend upon perception, gay bashers getting their just deserts, vampires and their fans, and the cruelty that can be found in the world. |

The genre of horror has in the past been the exclusive province of heterosexual writers and themes, stereotypically involving a male antagonist and a female victim. Although the incursions into the field by such writers as Anne Rich and Poppy Z. Brite have largely blurred sexual orientation boundaries, there has never been an anthology of horror stories where the protagonists are clearly gay - until now. Queer Fear is a striking and ambitious collection of gay horror fiction by some of today's hottest authors and talented newcomers, covering a wide range of creatures of the night and all manner of urban terrors. These dark and sometimes disturbing tales expand the boundaries of the horror genre, with the sexuality of their protagonists a point of reference for the horror of otherness that defines and, at times, divides us. Contributors to Queer Fear include Don Mancini (creator/writer of the film series Child's Play, including the recent Bride of Chucky), Ron Oliver (writer of Prom Night 2 and 3), Michael Thomas Ford (Lambda-winning author of Alec Baldwin Doesn't Love Me), Thomas S. Roche (co-editor of Sons of Darkness and Brothers of the Night), Lewis Gannett (author of the novels The Living One and Magazine Beach), Nancy Kilpatrick (author of several vampire novels including Near Death), and Brian Hodge (author of Wild Horses).
I have read this book twice now. The first time I read it in two nights. It is a page turner. I enjoyed the many different scenarios, and the fear factor is fabulous. So, climb into bed at dark, turn off the lights and light some candles and enjoy this book!

I was very surprised at how much this book got to me. Some of the stories, my favorite being 'Bear Shirt', really caught the fundamental fears within all of us and seamlessly included gay characters as people, rather than stereotypes. An amazing collection!

This is a terrific anthology of short horror fiction written by LGBT writers for an LGBT audience. Some of the pieces in this volume are really grounded in real-life fears for the LGBT community and as such, really hit hard.
I love horror but it's rarely able to really scare me on a deep, personal level. Some of the stories in this book actually did that.
