A cult classic, that has been continually shown in theaters since it was created and is based on the black and white movie Old Dark House. A review of the film cannot summarize the experience of seeing it with a theater full of fans. Renting it to watch it at home will not give the same experience.
This movie is extremely openly and unabashedly queer, which is unusual in and of itself considering the time it was made. The main character, Doctor Frankenfurter, is a Transylvanian transvestite who makes a hunk of a man for his sexual desires. He then seduces both Brad and Janet, a couple trapped there during a storm. Two of his servants appear to have a lesbian relationship, and we find out, in song, that a character played by Meatloaf was a previous lover of the Doctor. Add in a chorus line of both men and women dressed in fishnet stockings, feathered boas and full makeup and there is no denying this is one of the gayer movies ever made.
