The 2001 Queer Horror Awards




There were a number of fantastic entries this year. It's always difficult to compare big budget items, such as Biffy the Vampire Slayer, with low budget or independently produced items. But, the list below spans the gamut and should provide something for everyone.
Best overall
Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Joss Whedon
With transsexual demons and lesbian wtiches as the main characters, this prime-time TV show has done a lot for the queer horror arena.


Best collection of short stories
Bending the Landscape : Horror by Nicola Griffith and Stephen Pagel
A great collection of short horror stories that all have GLBT themes.

Best TV
Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Joss Whedon

Best movie
Wolves of Kromer by Charles Lambert (produced in 1999, released in the USA in 2001)
The first serious gay werewolf movie. A very poignant look at society.

Best novel
The Last Vampire by Whitley Strieber
A sequel to his book 'The Hunger' which was made into a fairly famous movie.

Best cartoon / anime
The House of Morecock by Joe Phillips
Who knew that queer horror would ever become animated?
